Installing the Bedfan® on a tall bed with a footboard

The installation is not difficult at all, don't' read the instructions the first time around just look at the pictures then read if you like.

Rather then showing individually how to install the Bedfan® on a tall bed and then a bed with a footboard we will show you how to install the Bedfan onto a tall bed with a footboard. This covers both situations and will save you time.

When you open the box you will find the following parts along with the instruction manual. For a detailed description of the parts click here

  1. Bedfan® main body

  2. Power converter and speed controller

  3. Breeze Bar with upright arms

  4. Tall bed adapter bracket (with Velcro attached)

  5. (2) Foam sheet blocks

  6. Installation and operations manual

For this installation we will first need to confirm that we are dealing with a "tall bed". In order to do this it is best to start on the side of the bed.

  1. Pull your covers up from the side of the bed so that you can see the mattress and the box spring.

  2. Place the Bedfan® body next to the side of the bed.

  3. Check the height of the fan against the gap that is between the mattress and the box spring.

  4. The top of the Bedfan® should be a few inches above that gap. There is a line on the back of the Bedfan® to guide you. Try to get that line within and inch of the gap.

For this installation you will see that the top of the fan is well below the gap produced by the mattress and the box spring. This verifies that we are dealing with a tall bed.

Now that we have verified that we are dealing with a tall bed we know that we will need to use the tall bed adapter bracket. Some beds will be taller than others and some will have taller mattresses. All these factors require us to ship the tall bed bracket un-attached. The simple way to make this attachment with a footboard bed is to do this from the side.

You must make sure that the bottom of the bed frame is the same on the side as it is at the foot of the bed when using this method. 99% of the time it will be the same. But do check this for confirmation. If it is different you may need to do this at the foot of the bed. That is not a problem. Just follow this same method but at the foot of the bed.

The first thing we will do is place the bracket in-between the mattress and the footboard.

The white paper that you see on the bracket is the tape back for the Hook side of the Hook and Loop Velcro. The loop side is already attached to the bracket and the Hook side will become attached to the Bedfan® body.

Now remove the tape backing paper, the white paper, and discard it.

With the paper removed you will find a very sticky backing of the Hook side of the Hook and Loop. At this time we will align the Bedfan® body with the bracket and press them together. Making sure that the bottom of the fan is clearing the bottom of the bed.

The best way to do this is just press the fan against the side of the bed an raise it up until the base of the fan start to bump the bottom of the bed frame. That is how high you will have the fan when you attach it to the bracket. So now we can attach the fan to the bracket.  Raise the Bedfan into position and press against the bracket firmly.

With the Bedfan® fully attached to the bracket you can remove them both from the bed and verify that the Velcro is firmly attached to the Bedfan® body.

You may now remove the bracket from the Bedfan®. As you will see the Hook side of the Hook and Loop is attached to the Bedfan® body.

Now that we have the bracket aligned properly we can insert it in-between the mattress and box spring at the foot of the bed.

With the bracket in place we will now raise the bedfan up between the bed and the footboard.  Some may need to lift the corner of the bed just a few inches in order to maneuver the fan into position. Being that this is only one corner you should be able to do this with a little help. In most installations this is not required.

Simply raise and reattach the Bedfan® to the bracket.

The next section will involve attaching the Breeze bar to the top of the fan. For information of the Breeze Bar please see FAQ.  Attach the Breeze Bar so that the top of the bar is at least one inch above the top of the mattress.

Remember Keep the top of the Breeze Bar at least one inch above the top of the mattress or you will not get any air.

At this point we can replace the top sheet and drape it over the top of the Bedfan®.

Tuck the sheet between the mattress and box spring as normal. There are two foam blocks that come with the Bedfan®. Use these to keep the sheet tucked in tight. You simply push these blocks in between the mattress and the box spring while the sheet is draped over and in position. The sheet will be pushed in at the same time. You will see the sheet get tight and stay in place. Finish tucking in the rest of the sheet.

Finish up by placing the comforter and other covers back in place.

The power adapter should be plugged into the wall rather close to the head of the bed on the side that the person controlling the fan will be sleeping. The Speed controller will reach the bed with plenty or room to spare. It may be placed on the bedside table or as I like to do, place the controller under your pillow. And that is it.  Enjoy.
